New Xbox Strike Policy: What it Means?

Today, Xbox put out a blog post, outlining a new 'strike' policy, on how user enforcement actions are taken, how you can view your own enforcement history, or even create an appeal. Let's dive in, shall we?

To start with, as of today, everyone has a clean slate. Previous enforcements must be completed, however. That is to say, you don't get your previous enforcement removed today. If you were banned previously, you will still be banned. You just start over with a new 'strike free' enforcement.

Each strike received will remain on your 'record' for 6 months. These are not permanent, and will fall off after a period of time. These are NOT handed out 'automatically', but by review. ONLY when reports are reviewed by the Xbox Safety Team will they result in a 'strike' or action against your account.

Players can receive a total of 8 strikes, leading to suspensions of up to 1 year. The length of each punishment will depend on the strike , and severity of the offense, but here's the breakdown

Again, it's worth noting that there's no automatic handling of suspensions / strikes (yet). With a community of players as large as Microsoft and Xbox, though, it's likely to only be a matter of time.
